Pet-Friendly Tennessee’s vision is to make Tennessee the “ Most Pet-Friendly State in the Nation”!

We have developed 7 comprehensive initiatives to make our state worthy of this title. Learn more about our unique programs:

Comprehensive Database

This is a service for both visitors and residents of the state of Tennessee to gain awareness of any pet-friendly locations near them. From places to stay, eat, walk, roam or places to work, we are providing our communities with resources and best practices to best serve pet and their people. Events will be added to our calendar which will serve as a center point for all pet lovers to find interesting pet-friendly events in their areas.

“Give 2” Pets Volunteer Program

This program is a statewide call to action encouraging pet lovers to volunteer 2 hours a month for pets. It is supported by a groundbreaking soon-to-be-released job matching survey, pre-training videos, and placement tools. Our goal is to achieve 1 million hours of volunteered time in the first year of this program.

Seniors 4 Seniors

Senior animals are usually gentler, calmer companions, often with prior training, making them perfect for seniors. For this initiative, we are helping link local shelter partners and their senior pets to the seniors of Tennessee. Seniors 4 Seniors focuses on the human and animal seniors that both benefit from health and mental wellness with the bond that comes from responsible pet ownership.

Dog Bite Prevention Education

More than 5 million dog bites occur in the US annually with 85% of dog bites being easily preventable with basic education. This is a first-of-its-kind educational course focused on increasing public safety and responsible pet ownership through elements such as: how to avoid dog bites, explanations of dog behavior, breakout chapters for seniors, kids, and runners, and so much more.

Pet Service Career Education

Pet care service spending has more than doubled over the last decade to more than $6 billion. Tennesse averages over 1,000 available jobs in the pet service sector so we aim to provide resources to individuals about this sector. This program works using compatibility quizzes and outreach programs to educate on the available careers as well as providing a job listing hub.

Operation Serene Shelter

When adopting a dog, temperament and behavior are the top deciding factors for families. Operation Serene Shelter focuses on providing Tennessee shelters with TVs in the kennel holding areas playing “calming programming” from DogTV, to create a less stressful, and engaging environment for dogs, thus increasing their adoptability. The pilot program of Operation Serene Shelter has proven hugely successful, with a positive impact on the dogs and their adoptions alongside happier shelter employees.
